As most of you know, I was an esteemed judge at the Blood Orchard Vintage Market & Southside Food Truck Rally 6th annual ICT Picklefest.
It felt good to finally be recognized for my judgy personality.
We had a great crew of judges — Wichita By E.B., Fert The Foodie, Sarah (or Sara) whom was celebrating a birthday and her dream was to eat with TKG (everyone’s dream) and of course The Kansas Gastronomist. Oh yeah…also Live Local. He’s so annoying, so I almost forgot about him.
We got to try out the pickle dishes from Urban Skillet, Big Granny’s, Smokin Diner, No Ragrets – Vegan Scratch Kitchen , Tickled Pink Drinks , Waffles N Stuff, Cheezepanzee, Shawarma UR’s, All In The Mix, Bread Sled Cafe, DZ Ice Cream & Frozen Treats and U-Hungry TRUCK.
There were so many great dishes, but we ultimately chose the Urban Skillet’s Focaccia Bread with the pickled butter for the best overall dish. And we chose Smokin Diner’s Pickle Egg Roll for the best “pickle incorporated dish.”
But I could tell you about so many other great items I had. A few that stick out…I was really impressed with the tofu sandwich from No Ragrets and the Pickled Fries and sauce from Bread Sled Cafe.
A big thank you to Blood Orchard Brewing Co. and Blood Orchards for hosting this event and putting their trust in my judgment. Not surprising — my mom always said I’m the most judgmental person she knows.
