Last week I judged Picklefest and No Ragrets – Vegan Scratch Kitchen food truck was there. I was really impressed with their Summer Barbecue Sandwich which comes with organic grilled tofu, cabbage slaw, pickles and garlic aioli. I wanted to try a full size sandwich and saw they were going to be at Central Standard Brewing in Wichita, Kansas during a Beauties and Beasts, Inc. fundraiser called Beats For Beauties . It is going on right now.
So I meandered on over and scarfed down that incredible sandwich. Seriously, I really love it and you’re hearing from the guy who just did a cheeseburger eating contest with other foodies — don’t knock it until you try it. I also stopped by the Beauties and Beasts booth and bought a couple of shirts to contribute toward the cause. For those that don’t know, B&B is a dog rescue not-for-profit. I enjoyed listening to the band Hard Decision while I ate my food including those tasty fries made from real potatoes.
Now the interesting part. I leave Central Standard Brewing and drive to Chuck & Don’s Pet Food & Supplies to get some dog food for my two amazing rescue dogs (Hope was adopted from Kansas Humane Society and Remus was adopted from Kansas K-9 ResQ). And wouldn’t you know…Beauties and Beasts is also having an “in-store adoption event” hosted by Chuck and Don’s. I was able to meet Lexus — a beautiful female pit-mix who was so sweet to me and did a good sit for me. And also meet Chaco — a sweet little doggie.
Sometimes…sometimes I think doing this whole “blog” thing is worth it. Many times I don’t. But today is one of those days. Seeing so many great volunteers and companies teaming together. Seeing Central Standard Brewing, Beauties and Beasts, No Ragrets Food Truck and bands like Hard Decision coming together for fun and most importantly something LARGER than themselves. And then seeing Chuck and Don’s and Beauties and Beasts coming together to get some puppers a home.
