Artichoke Sandwichbar East in Wichita,Kansas (located at Terra-Cotta Tower at 29th St. & Rock Rd.) released its new Irish Dinner menu yesterday. Obviously, I had to go.
In case you care — Irish food holds a special spot in my heart for a few reasons.
I went with the Bangers & Mash. I love me some Bangers & Mash. That and Shepherd’s Pie (or Cottage Pie) are my two favorite Irish dishes.
The Bangers & Mash was fantastic. The bangers were cooked perfectly with enough juice still inside and the gravy had a nice flavor. The Artichoke makes their gravy in-house and it is apparent in its excellent flavor. Highly recommend this dish.
Okay, some real talk. Where else can you get Irish food regularly? I took the liberty of looking into that question. There are five other spots in Wichita that market themselves as “Irish.” Dudley’s Irish Pub, Shamrock Lounge, O’Malley’s Irish Pub, O’Briens Irish Pub and Mulligan’s Pub.
Out of all of those places the only spot that I could identify as having a menu with Irish fare (and I could be wrong and sure I will be corrected if I am) is O’Malley’s Irish Pub. It has six Irish food entrees. Whereas the new menu at The Choke has at least somewhere between eight and fourteen Irish dishes.
All I am saying is that it appears to me there are now TWO spots in Wichita to get Irish fare on a regular basis.
While I was there I also ordered the Galway Gourmet Spud just to check it out. The chicken definitely had plenty of flavor and juice.
IMPORTANT: Currently the Irish meals are only available on Thursday evenings at 5pm until the kitchen closes and only available at the East side location. It’s NOT available at Artichoke Sandwichbar Midtown.
This is how we do.
