1. I organized a fundraiser for people to donate to Kansas Humane Society where myself and other foodies donated $400 to Kansas Humane Society and where I invited other followers to donate. This coincided with a bowling tournament.
2. I went and visited a dog (named Latte) at the Kingman County Humane Society, whom had been a resident for 514 days (as of the time of my post). She has since found a home.
3. I am a monthly contributor to Beauties and Beasts, Inc. and have posted about them more times than I can count, including when I visited them while they were at Central Standard Brewing and then when I met (and I blogged about) two dogs that were at a store I visited later that day that were up for adoption.
4. I went and visited a dog named Thor at the Ulysses Animal Shelter that was also being cared for by Furever Friends of Grant County, KS that had been a resident for two years. I posted about him and ultimately one of my Gastrofans adopted Mr. Thor.
5. I went and visited, with Lets.Eat.ICT, the Wichita Animal Action League facilities, bought pizza for the entire crew (and never once revealed that until now) and saw in real time the way they operate their awesome spay/neuter/vaccination clinic.
6. I went and visited the newly opened Redemption Animal Rescue in Hutchinson and met Mr. Henry and Ms. Beatrice – two residents in need of a home and posted about them.
7. I personally have adopted Ms. Hope from the Kansas Humane Society, Remus from Kansas K-9 ResQ in Wichita and Odette from Save the Kitties in Derby.
8. And finally, I have spoken with many folks highly involved with the aforementioned and/or the below mentioned, that have knowledge about the issues going on with the Wichita Animal Shelter, the City, Kansas Humane Society and area rescues. I will not reveal ANY names, organizations or specific conversations that I have had. Period. End of story.
I know I’m missing other rescues I have visited and supported, but you get the idea. I outline the above, not to talk about how great I am or otherwise. If you want to take it that way — fine. But I write the above so that you have context for the below.
First, I want to say “good job” to the City of Wichita- Government on taking some positive steps towards trying to solve the crisis. It was smart on your part to reach out to K-State and get some recommendations. Yeah, I know I make fun of you sometimes. And know I will continue to do that. This is a humorous blog. Just laugh. But I also will give credit where it is due. Is the plan perfect? Probably not. But what in life is perfect? These are some good moves and people that want to nitpick and whine should instead applaud progress.
Second, I want to say that I have met so many people in all of the rescues and I have seen one common theme. Whether that be the Kansas Humane Society, Beauties & Beasts, Kansas K-9 Rescue, Wichita Animal Action League or any other number of rescues. They want to save animals and give them homes. That is ultimately what they want to do.
So, what is my point? The City is doing something. Now, I am asking for something specific. That the rescues work with the City, the City work with the rescues and the rescues work with one another. What is in the past is in the past. It is done. Over with. Rehashing the past wrongs does absolutely ZERO. To do that takes a “big man.” I know. But trust me — that is the best way and only way forward. To save animals and do what all of you want to do. Easier said than done. But nothing in life worth doing is easy.
Peace out.

P.S. Kansas Humane Society comments about the same in the photo with this post.
