I’ve had Napoli’s Italian Restaurant in Liberal on my to-do list for at least a year and probably longer. It’s located in the train station on the south side of Liberal and you all know how much I love choo-choo trains.
The owner of this restaurant is the same owner as the Napoli’s Italian restaurant Garden city Kansas on the east side of Garden City. I’m pretty sure I read that this train station has been there since at least 1889. The building is beautiful and it’s very nice inside. Lots of cool photographs and history on the wall. Check out some of the photos.
When I visited Napoli’s Italian Restaurant I ordered the Minestrone Soup as well as the Meatlovers Pizza. As far as the Minestrone Soup I thought it was very good and light. I mean, obviously it’s vegetables. But I liked the sauce although it was a bit thicker than a lot of the typical minestrone soups I’ve had. Nonetheless it was my favorite part of the meal and would order it again.
As far as my choice of the pizza — honestly I think there was a bit of a disconnect with my server (whom did a great job, but I learned later that this person had just started a few days prior). I was under the impression the pizzas were something a little more “traditional Italian” and that the sausage was homemade. I don’t think it’s homemade and it certainly is not a traditional Italian pizza. But it was still a decent ordinary pizza, just not something I’ll order next time. I think next time I’ll order one of the homemade baked pastas (which I have tried in Garden City at the restaurant there).
