When Wichita By E.B. did his most recent 2024 Top 100 restaurants in Wichita, I had been to 86 of them and felt great shame it was not all 100. But I give myself a lot of excuses and accept no blame or responsibility.
Pollo Express was one of those restaurants that I needed to check out.
And it was absolutely delicious. I ordered the pork chili verde dish, which came with rice and beans, as well as a taco and the complementary chips and salsa. The red sauce/salsa was amazing. What a great spot.
My server was the owner’s son. And the owner was doing what she does best — cooking and taking orders. A great mom-and-son shop.
For those that have not been, there is limited seating. If you don’t have 30-minutes to sit during lunch, definitely consider ordering to-go/call-ahead. The food does not take long, but just that you might have to wait for a table. There is also small drive-through. Pollo Expres is located at just south of W. Pawnee & S. Meridian St. in southwest Wichita.
