When you see (or hear) the words “I was invited to check out…” by a food blogger/influencer, that is code for “I got free food and I’m gonna tell you about it now.”
Except this time.
I WAS invited to check out the newly opened Smalls Sliders location in Wichita, Kansas at 13th & Greenwich…BUT I actually paid my own way. All of it. No freebies.
My thoughts? I think it is definitely worth trying. The sliders were pretty good and larger than I expected. As a comparison, a slider here is 1 1/2X to 2X the size of a Cozy Inn burger (my best guess). I really liked dipping the slider in the queso. Personally, I liked the queso. I have seen some saying they did not like the queso, but I did. However, my buddy didn’t think it was worth the price with a cup of queso running $2.79. I do admit I was disappointed in the size and the fact it was not full (it was only filled halfway).
I also liked the house sauce and didn’t expect to. Had a “zesty” taste to it. Maybe mayonnaise in it. Not sure. The waffle fries were waffle fries. What more do I say?
I’ve seen some people bi*** about the pricing. I didn’t think it was bad. I don’t know. Look at my receipt and judge for yourself. Other than the queso, I thought I got a good amount of quality food for $30.37 and my buddy and I did not finish all of it. You can spend $11 on a meal at McDonald’s, and this is better and I rarely hear peeps complaining about McDonald’s pricing.
SOME INTERESTING BACKGROUND ON SMALLS SLIDERS—It was founded in 2019 by Brandon Landry in Louisiana with Drew Brees as one of the initial partner-investors. Brandon Landry is a co-founder of Walk-On’s as well. I noticed that the drive-through had folks stationed outside taking orders on electronic pads like Chick-fil-A and later learned the former CEO of Smalls Sliders spent 18-years at Chick-fil-A. There are around 25 current locations in the U.S. and this location is owned by Jim and Teresa Sorlie and their son Colton Sorlie, whom are local ICT folks that live, work and play in Wichita. So, give this place a shot. But please, for the love of Doug, don’t engage in the “slide on in” rhetoric everybody is doing right now. It’s already getting old.
