Yo, Gastrofreaks.
For those that don’t know, there’s a fairly new Vietnamese restaurant over at W. 13th St. N & N. Maize Rd. called Nguyen Kitchen .
I walked in during the lunch hour and for forty-five minutes, I was the ONLY customer. Hard stop. The door didn’t open after I entered. Kind of sad.
Anyway, I really enjoyed the food. And the owner was very nice to me. He was the only one working. He took the order, then went back and prepared the food. I ordered the egg rolls and I was impressed. Prepared well and cooked well. And I also ordered the pho. I just went with the original. The broth was unlike any I have tried before. It sort of had a sweet caramel taste to it. I asked the owner about the broth and he told me that it was a family recipe. Also, as an aside, he used to own a restaurant in Hutchinson before opening this spot so he could be closer to home (he lives in Andover).
Nguyen Kitchen is located at 1444 N. Maize Rd., Unit 600, in Western Wichita.
