Doug’s Wife (TKG’s sister) remembered that day like it was just yesterday. She was glued to the TV screen all day long. She remembered the fear and the panic.
But what she most remembered was a lot of people coming together. People saying “let’s unite.” In fact, she remembered the phrase everyone said then — “United We Stand.” She didn’t know if it was a play on the old term “United we stand, divided we fall.” Perhaps. All she knew was that it was a phrase she had not heard in a long time.
What she didn’t remember were people intentionally trying to divide. Nope. She just remembered people praying. People comforting. People dying. People saving.
As she looked at the calendar on September 11, 2026, she said a silent prayer. Or a silent thought. Or whatever. “Help us to love our neighbor as ourselves. Help us to stop being assholes to each other. Help us to come together. Help us to be the best that we can be. Help us to stand united, so we don’t fall.”
