The Holiday Bowl in Augusta is definitely worth a visit if you’re a fan of history and good wings/pizza. It originally opened in 1958 and was part of the community for almost sixty years, but like many bowling alleys in small towns (and large cities) it eventually closed in 2017. I’m sure that was pretty sad day for Augustans (did I say that right?).
But two locals (Alyssa Jameson and Lonny Pace) decided to do something about it. And after five or six years of Augusta not having a bowling alley, they reopened this completely remodeled, beautiful bowling alley. For you knowledgeable/experienced bowlers, take a look at some of these photos and you’ll see all the Brunswick bowling equipment and vibes.
For your reference, I had no plans to swing by this bowling alley when I was in Augusta, but I just happened to run into the GM of Holiday Bowl (whom didn’t know who I was) and the pride with which he described the alley led me to decide to go and check it out. And I’m glad I did. Because those wings were banging. He had told me that they only had bone-in wings and that means something to a foodie that understands boneless wings are chicken nuggets. I ordered them naked and they were so tasty I barely used any sauce. But I did try three sauces and my favorite of the three was the Garlic Parm, but the Boom Boom and Jamaican Jerk were tasty as well.
I also ordered the Triple Pepperoni Pizza, which came with diced, cupped and regular pepperoni and I enjoyed that as well. I had enough leftover za that when I got back to my house (Doug’s Basement) I was able to share with Doug’s Wife (my sister). She thought the pizza was pretty damn tasty too.
