Alright. So, here’s a good story.

I swung by the Chick-fil-A on N. Rock Rd. in Wichita recently. When I ordered in the drive-through I was on the phone with Gertie and so she heard me order the Grilled Chicken Club Sandwich with fries.

So, I get up to the window and I get my bag, but there’s no drink. So, I say “hey, I think you forgot my drink.” to the gal working the window. Because I genuinely thought I had ordered “the meal,” but as I said “you forgot my drink,” I realized that I had never given a specific drink name and began to question myself. However, the words were already out of my mouth by the time my brain processed the situation.

The girl working the window just said “Oh, no problem. What drink did you want?” and proceeded to grab me a Dr. Pepper.

It wasn’t until I got back to the house and Gertie said “The Kansas Gastronomist, you didn’t order a drink. You said sandwich and fries only,” that I realized that this is exactly why Chick-fil-A is known for such great customer service.

I was wrong that I ordered a drink. And I’m sure there was evidence of it from the receipt. But because I thought I was right, and it was just a stupid Dr. Pepper, the employee just took care of it. Even though I didn’t deserve it and didn’t pay for it (unbeknownst to me at the time).

Chick-fil-A does have some damn good customer service. Whether you hate the place or love the place, there’s a lot of businesses that could take a page from its book.
