March 25, 2024

As the cold weather comes to a close I am formally ending this season’s chili tour.

This 2023/2024 tour I only reviewed non-chain restaurant chilis in Wichita and only classic chilis (no green chilis, for example). Points were on a 1-5 scale in four categories: consistency, flavor, uniqueness and meat ratio. Consistency = not too thick and not too soupy. Flavor = you know. Uniqueness = anything special about the chili. Meat Ratio = it’s common to have too little meat, and it’s rare, but does happen, that there’s too much meat.

My top five this year were:

1. Barn’rds Restaurant;

2. Whiskey Dicks;

3. Oasis Lounge;

4. Ty’s Diner; and

5. Jumbo’s Beef & Brew

Photos of each chili, in order, is on this post.

I cannot emphasize enough — I did not make it to many spots I intended to this year. So if you’re like “Why didn’t TKG like the chili at ‘x’” the answer is either because I didn’t try it or I didn’t like it. And if you’re like “Why didn’t TKG do his chili tour different” the answer is “who knows.”

Finally the top five all were very close. I did a point system this year to be consistent and all of the top five were within three points of each other.
