Bonnie married some dude when she was 15-years old in 1926. He was in and out of jail. They never divorced, but were “not together.” Four years later, when she was 19, she met Clyde.

I think it’s really interesting that people always refer to the couple as “Bonnie and Clyde.” Her name comes first. Since they were criminals, I’m hesitant to say “that’s a good thing.” But I’m not hesitant to say that it’s an interesting thing. And not a bad thing.

There’s no, or little, written documentation to show that Bonnie, and Clyde, lived in Hugoton, Kansas in southwest Kansas for a few months or a year. But there’s a lot of stories about it, including prominent folks that lived by or next door to them. And one thing I know about small towns is that when people talk about something that happened — it’s usually true. I know that’s a bold statement, but there’s something about those old stories. And people are in each other’s business. When Grandpa says he remembers meeting Bonnie…I don’t think Grandpa was lying.

By the way, the “tale” is that Bonnie ran a cafe in Hugoton and Clyde worked on a farm.

Regardless, when I was recently in Hugoton, I stopped by one of my favorite spots — Bonnie & Clydes Grill & Sports Bar — a restaurant theme taken from the famous criminal lovers.

I ordered up the Hot Beef Sandwich. It was FANTASTIC. I’ve been to this spot 3-4 times and I have enjoyed it each time.
