One of my favorite spots to grab a quick sandwich when I’m near Greensburg, Kansas is Kook’s Meat. It can be easily missed if you’re driving down Hwy. 54/400. But it’s right there by that dumb Kwik Shop (where losers grab a quick bite to eat).

Kook’s gets fresh meats from Ellinwood Packing Plant, Inc. once or twice a week and they actually ground their own hamburger meat so you’re getting FRESH burgers.

In May of 2007 when the tornado struck Greensburg — 95% of the city was leveled, eleven people were killed and I’m sure so many lost memories, etc. I hesitate to mention this, but I feel like I can’t invoke the tornado without being honest.

I bring the tornado up because Kook’s Meat was one of the businesses that opened up shortly after the tornado struck. It is now the oldest business operating in “New” Greensburg.

I picked up the Lip Smacker. It was a lightly toasted sandwich with Ham, Bacon, Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion and Mayo (I substituted for mustard). It was a great sandwich. And at $7.39 you get a bag of chips and a pickle spear. Not bad at all.

Seriously, if you’re driving through Greensburg and just want a quick sandwich, I don’t know why you’d be stupid enough not to stop.
