Bruce Nielsen attended Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Seattle and has been cooking, smoking and making good eats ever since. Oh yeah. And he’s a heckuva nice guy. Course anyone that gives me the time of day must be nice.
I swung by Tanker BBQ Co. in Wichita, Kansas for the first time and I LOVED what I had. I got the Burnt Ends with half Pork Belly and half Brisket and the Chili and the Mac and Cheese as my sides. I also ordered the soup of the week (Soup De Jour) which was a Cheesy Chicken w/Poblano and Green Chilis. All of this was $20 “all-in.” With tax.
I always know I have an amazing MEAL when I go from one dish to another to another to another and just keep circling around. Aside from the brisket it would be hard to say whether I liked the Mac, Chili or Soup the best. I think I’d say the chili, but honestly it was all superb.
I really am glad I got to check this place out. I’ve heard a lot about it. It’s good.
If you go…be sure to tell Bruce that TKG sent you. Honestly you won’t get anything out of telling him that…so forget it.
IMPORTANT RESTAURANT NOTES: This is a cash only place for now and it is carry-out. However they do have some outdoor seating. The location is 620 W. Maple St. which is right by Riverfront Stadium in DelanoWichita. Apparantly it’s the old stadium bar (thanks Jerry Payne). You can see in the photos what Tanker plans to become — an awesome full-service, sit-down BBQ restaurant by the stadium.
