The dude (Luciano) that owns Luciano’s in Mulvane, Kansas is straight up Italian. It’s kind of awesome that this town of 6 thousand peeps has such an authentic Italian restaurant.
I’ve never met Luciano. At least, not that I’m aware of. On my most recent visit, which was my first in years, he was actually in Italy and his nephew from Italy was running the shop.
I ordered the Penne al Ragu as my appetizer, the Salsiccia e Senape (the sausage dish with potatoes and mustardo) as an entree, the Pasta Carbonara (the yellow looking pasta which had pork) as a second entree, and the Filetto al Pepe Verde (the filet with mushroom sauce) as my side. I also ordered the Cranberry Salad and Bruschetta for dessert.
Out of all the items I ate in its entirety and which I was solely alone eating, with no one else there eating with me…my two favorites were the Pasta Carbonara and the Sausage Dish. The Carbonara was unlike ANY that I have tasted before and I really liked it. The Sausage dish (the Salsiccia e Senape) was also very good.
I thought the Filet dish was good as far as the filet. It was cooked perfectly. But for the price it was pretty small and I felt like there was just too much sauce. And as far as the Penne al Ragu, I really liked it, but didn’t think it was anything “special.”
I definitely recommend you check this LEGIT Italian restaurant out if you’ve never been or haven’t been in awhile. But I wouldn’t recommend the Penne al Ragu as it was pretty run-of-the-mill and there are so many other tasty options.
