I’ve always been a big fan of Argentina’s Empanadas. I last posted about them back in January when it was engaged in some sort of “competition” that took it to many different states including Texas and Mississippi.
Let’s be honest…the competition it was engaged in was obviously The Great Food Truck Race on The Food Network. That comes from ZERO insider information and me being able to utilize Google. See first photo. And by the way, again, no insider information here — but as long as they were doing the competition, they must have done well, i.e. didn’t get eliminated or eliminated for a long time. We’ll find out.
On to the food. One of the things that AE (Argentina’s Empanadas) did while they were engaged in the “competition” (I don’t get it, but it’s a secret when the filming occurs) was they began cooking/serving their empanadas a bit different. Previously the empanadas were baked and then reheated in an oven when served. But they began frying them during this competition and announced that they planned to continue doing so.
What would I think about the “new style” of empanadas?
I was finally able to try it when I swung by the Old Town Farm & Art Market in Old Town Wichita recently. I ordered up one Corn Empanada and one Shrimp Empanada. To the point — I LOVE the new style of empanadas they are slinging out. Really truly do. Frying them rather than reheating them I think causes the innards (fancy way of saying juices, sauces and meats inside) to be just so warm and fresh. The Shrimp Empanada was particularly flavorful.
This Saturday morning you can check out AE at the Oldtown Farmer’s Market from 8-1 (or something like…click the dang links…I’m not your mom). I’ve heard they have a breakfast empanada as well, which I want to check out. Let me know if you’ve had it.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I was given my empanadas “on the house.” Typically I would either not review the food (if I got it for free). But I really wanted to tell you about this new method of how they make the empanadas as I’d been wanting to try it for almost four months now. And if you want to go onto my page and search “Argentina’s Empanadas” and see that I’ve been raving about AE for two years — be my guest. So take it for what it’s worth. Truth is, my mom says my opinions suck anyway.
