Today seems to be a good day to tell you about Bann Thai cafe LLC. This Thai restaurant has a great selection of soups and bowls that can definitely warm you up.
I swung by recently with Wichita By E.B. I ordered the Chicken Tom Yum Gai soup (third food photo), as well as the Spicy Basil Stir Fry (second food photo), and of course got to enjoy the complimentary broth soup (first food photo).
I always enjoy Bann Thai. But beware — this is one of the “hottest” spots in Wichita. The owner straight up personally travels to Thailand to bring back the chilis that make Thai food upper level hot. I have personally only had “mild-medium.” This past visit I went with mild and it was not too hot at all for a wuss like me.
FULL DISCLOSURE. I did not pay for my Spicy Basil Stir Fry bowl, which cost $8 for the lunch size portion. The owner was insistent on me not paying. The lunch bowl is a new venture she just started in an attempt to get butts in the seats by having a smaller size bowl for a reasonable cost. So, on my $9 bill I tipped $15 to make up for it.
I think this spot could really use some love. When E.B. and I went we were the only customers for a good chunk of time. Bann Thai is located at 5255 N. Maize Rd. just south of W. 53rd St. & Maize Rd., technically in Maize, Kansas.
