Well…I finally made it to Big Larry’s Burgers in Valley Center, Kansas and it was definitely not what I expected.

I expected more of a “Bar & Grill” or something. You know? An average burger, perhaps, that went along with an average beer that was served by an average restaurant worker while I sat in my average chair next to a below average guy named Doug.

It wasn’t that at all. And it was a pleasant surprise.

It’s more like an old school burger diner. It was only started in 2008 (I don’t mean that in a negative way…17 years in this business deserves hella kudos!), but it definitely has the vibe of the 1950s’ diner era. It Is owned by Larry and Heather Hall. To be honest…I saw Larry and I thought he would be older — I didn’t think anyone was named Larry under the age of 50. I don’t know. Maybe he is my age, but he didn’t look like he was in his nineties.

I ordered The BIG Larry burger which is a 3/4 lb patty, with mustard, pickle, onion, lettuce, tomato and 3 slices of cheese. Additionally, I ordered the chili and a cheese fries.

The fries were home cut fries. The chili was homemade. The cheese on the fries was that nacho cheese. And The Big Larry burger was definitely a tasty burger. It was all fantastic. I have to say — those fries were some of the best I have had in some time.

Definitely go and check out Big Larry’s. And if you see Big Larry be sure and go out of your way to randomly tell him that TKG sent you. Even if it would be awkward and not make any sense.
