Definitely check out D’mario’s Pizza Cheney Lanes in Cheney, Kansas the next time you get a chance. For those folks in the Wichita area that want to do a little family trip with pizza, bowling and beer, this is the spot.

D’Mario’s has been owned by Don Albers since 1996. But what’s crazy is his dad (Joe) built and ran the bowling alley and pizzeria all the way back in 1964. At some point he sold to someone else and I’m not clear on who, but his son Don took it back over in ‘96 and continues to own and operate it to this day.

D’Mario’s used to be a franchise kind of like Big Cheese or Gambino’s. Quite fascinating.

As to the pizza, you can get mini, small, medium and large. I ordered up three minis — Taco Pizza (beef, onion, cheddar, lettuce, tomato and black olives — no beans), Slam Dunk (which is the Meatlovers) and German Pie (Canadian Bacon and Sauerkraut).

I enjoyed all three. The Taco Pizza was good, but difficult to manage. But the Slam Dunk I loved because the pepperoni was crispy and I love crispy pepperoni. My favorite was the German Pie. I’ve ordered plenty of German pizzas in my time and time-and-again the sauerkraut is a letdown. Not on this pie. Plenty of sauerkraut and it was hot and tasty.

I didn’t bowl when I was there. Because I don’t need the practice. Just ask the other food bloggers.
