It takes a special kid (sorry, Jayden…young man) to go to the casino, win $18,000 and then turn around and use that money to buy a food truck so that you can pursue your dream/passion.
But that’s exactly what Jayden — the owner of J&A’s Flavored Kitchen in Wichita, Kansas — did four years ago.
Jayden and his wife Alexis (J&A) have had this food truck since 2020 and he makes some awesome grub. When I went I ordered a smashburger and loaded fries. I was the only one there and waited between 5 and 10 minutes for him to make it at the time of the order…it’s none of that premade crap.
Sometimes (but not all the time) when I leave a restaurant or food truck, the owner gives me that feeling. It’s hard to describe. But it’s a feeling that that person is special, unique or whatever. That’s how I felt meeting Jayden. He just was happy to be there, happy I was there (incognito…just a regular customer) and happy I enjoyed my food.
If you haven’t tried J&A’s I encourage you to do it. I think that not only will you enjoy the food (and plenty for leftovers, by the way), but I think you’ll enjoy supporting Jayden. I know I did. To do so, you’ll need to look at his Facebook page, which I have tagged to see where he posts up. A common spot that he goes to is 520 N. West St. on the west side of town. That is where I found him.
