Sometimes I like to leave my mark at a restaurant. Particularly, when the restaurant leaves a mark on me.
When I stopped in Jerry’s Bar & Grill-Turon in Turon, Kansas, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I knew that the motto there was “We Ain’t Fancy,” but that’s pretty much all I knew. Oh, and knew I had been tagged multiple times over the last few months because this spot could use a little love.
First, let me say this. Jerry and Deb were so damn friendly, inviting and helpful. Per the usual, I didn’t introduce myself, so no special treatment. But they told me their story. Deb and Jerry opened it in September 2023, and for a year prior they built the restaurant, which was a former liquor store. Deb did the brick by hand — it was immaculate. And Jerry built the bar top amongst other things. These peeps were salt of the earth.
Second, the food really was excellent. The burger is made from fresh ground beef – never frozen. That’s the case for all of their burgers (and the meat in the chili). I ordered a Jalepeno cheeseburger with green chili. So good. And the homemade beef chili was the bomb and had excellent flavor. Look how much beef there is! The homemade ranch and house “the sauce” to dip my tots into just added to the experience. All around great food.
Turon is approximately 22 miles northeast of Pratt and 34 miles southwest of Hutchinson on Hwy. 61. If you live in the area, or ever traveling in the area, I highly encourage you to check Jerry’s out.
And if you do, tell ’em some doofus with a food blog sent you. Or don’t, and just order some good food.
