At the beginning of July of this year Main Street Food and Brew Hall opened in Garden City. It is the ONLY food hall in Kansas outside of the Kansas City area. There’s not one in Wichita, Topeka, Salina, Manhattan, Lawrence or Hays. What a big deal for the community.
I wrote at the end of my review: “Good luck, Garden City. You got an awesome thing going. Now, can you keep it?”
That was a genuine question because I see so many places that end up not surviving.
Well, I went back in the last couple of weeks during a weekday for lunch, and I was SO disappointed that there was basically one or two other tables besides me. Quite frankly, it was dead. I’m not sure why. Maybe dinner time it is hopping. And to be fair it was close to 12:45pm during lunch. But the second I walked in I thought to myself — “well I got my answer.”
Hopefully I’m wrong.
It really is a shame because this place has three permanent spots and then a pop-up area. I ordered Boulet from Mana’s Haitian Caribbean Food LLC. This is a Haitian meatball dish. Wow. The flavor and sauces on this dish were OUTSTANDING. Really enjoyed it. The other permanent spots are Filipino Food Flavors LLC and Norma’s Mexican Food. I also saw the other day where 1979, a food truck I’ve blogged about before, was doing a pop-up at food hall. It appears that there are pop-ups there occasionally based on my review of social media.
Come on, Southwest Kansas. Support the only food hall west of Kansas City.
