I find it impressive when multiple generations engage in a ritual of some kind. For example, a farmer, whose father was a farmer, whose father was a farmer, whose father was a farmer.

I ran into a volunteer named Grace at the Annual Mediterranean Festival-St. Mary Orthodox Christian Church in Wichita today (Saturday, May 3rd). She was there making the rounds while Fert The Foodie and I waited on our meals.

Grace told me that not only has her mother and grandmother been involved in the annual Mediterranean meal, but even her great grandmother and pointed me to a large portrait of her on the wall. Four generations…that’s pretty damn cool. Based on my research this event has been going on for 93-years or so.

This was actually my first time at this particular “church Mediterranean meal.” The meal came with a Greek salad, cabbage rolls, Kibbee, Green Beans and rice, Talame bread and baklawa. And after you get done, you can shop in the little market. I picked up some of that Green Beans and Rice. Loved it.

St. Mary’s Orthodox Christian Church is having this event today until 7pm. You can eat there, get it to-go and I saw a sign about a drive-through as well. 10% of the net proceeds will be donated to The Meaningful Life Foundation, which helps peeps with intellectual and developmental disabilities, which I think is pretty rad.

St. Mary’s is located 344 S. Martinson St., which is near the Delano District.
