“Get your ass in the car Fert!” The Kansas Gastronomist shouted out as he leaned out the passenger window.
Live Local was in the driver’s seat and TKG was shotgun. They were headed to meet Wichita By E.B. and DJ Carbon at Nortons Brewing Company in Downtown Wichita to check out the Bigloo — one of the igloos available to rent during the holidays. TKG had heard they were pretty cool, but had never experienced it.
As Fert The Foodie took a seat in the back, he shot a look at TKG. Instant mind-meld. They both knew it would be a bumpy ride. Live Local was known for two things — taco salads and being a poor vehicle operator.
After barely making it safely to Nortons and settling in to the Bigloo, the foodies did what they do best. They ordered food. TKG ordered the Pastrami Sandwich, which was on one of the prior derivations of the menu, but was now available only on special. The banana peppers just really added a unique, but tasty element. He ate all of it. And it paired quite nicely with the Old Fashioned that TKG had ordered.
TKG didn’t get a chance to talk to the owners of Nortons that night — Becky and Dan Norton — but he imagined if he had, he would have said “Thank you for inviting us out to check out your igloo. It was an awesome time! The food was fantastic, as was the service and atmosphere. Keep on being cool!” Unfortunately, he’d just have to tell them some other time.
