When you die, what is left? You made a bunch of money. Or you didn’t. You moved up the corporate ladder at your company or you didn’t. Big deal.
But maybe you leave some sort of legacy.
I got to know Mel and Linda Gregory back in 2015 and ran into each other regularly…all the time. We had similar circles.
Some people don’t even know that Mel was a very respected lawyer right here in Wichita. But that is not what he was known for by the majority of Wichita,Kansas residents. No. He and Linda, despite what they did during the workday, were known for what they did on the weekends and after 5pm during the week — going to every damn event in town, usually for free, and photographing all of the things. Events at non-profits, Final Fridays, and sporting events, etc., etc., etc. KSN TV described Mel as “a dedicated supporter of League 42,” when stating that he had passed.
Before I even had a blog, Linda and I used to talk about starting a show. We’d travel somewhere exotic like Anthony Bourdain. I’d interview the locals and try all the local eats and she would wait for the perfect shot (photo) of the perfect landscape. We had a name for the show.
Linda Gregory passed away on September 8, 2023 while photographing a local high school football game. Mel Gregory passed away recently on March 6, 2025.
They leave behind a legacy to many people. Hopefully I strive to do the same.
