Doug opened the door to Sakura Japanese Cuisine located in Historic Delano District in Wichita, Kansas. It was a small restaurant. One that he had only been to once before. And he wanted to get there again, before The Kansas Gastronomist put a post out there on it.

He knew what he needed to order — the “Five Spice Ramen.” It came with homemade Five Spice broth with Pork Belly, Braised Eggs, Spinach, Bean Sprout, Carrot, Sweet Corn and Kikurage Mushroom. He enjoyed the broth. It was fabulous. And the pork belly was something to write home about. Unfortunately, he couldn’t because most of the people at home didn’t like him.

He also ordered the Red Snapper Sushi. He enjoyed it, but also thought the snapper was a little too thick for raw (he only liked raw sushi, or more specifically, enjoyed raw sushi the most). Even though delicious, he thought he might order a different sushi next time…like the White Tuna sushi.

RESTAURANT NOTES: I feel like this place does not get much publicity. And it’s a damn shame. It’s run well and run by the owners just busting their butts. Go and get some ramen during these upcoming cold (and hopefully rainy) days!
