He let out a deep sigh of relief as he took a sip of his coffee. Instant relief from the aftertaste of the Crawfish Boil he’d just eaten at Sam’s Southern Eatery located at 2706 N. Amidon Ave. in Wichita, Kansas.
While our hero, The Kansas Gastronomist, ate the boil with Fert The Foodie and Wichita By E.B., which consisted of hardboiled egg, sausage, crawfish, shrimp, potato and corn….he’d been underwhelmed. But it wasn’t horrible. Just not good — the corn was mushy, the crawfish were adequately sized, but little meat, the egg had little flavor. But it was after he jumped into his Ford Pinto on his way to Doug’s basement that he began to pick up on some weird aftertaste that did not sit well. He wasn’t sure whether it was the sauce with butter the boil came in, or the sausage that was also mushy, or the corn. But it was one of those things.
TKG had fortunately really enjoyed the Gumbo. It had a nice kick to it. As well as the Red Beans and Rice. The fried Shrimp had also been very good (TKG was quite surprised). Generally the non-seafood boil selections had been anywhere from “alright” to “very tasty.” And TKG wanted the Gastroverse to know that they should still check this spot out…but that he simply wouldn’t recommend the boil. He wasn’t sure how to convey that message.
TKG sat down, pulled out his feather pen and began to write. And he wrote and wrote and wrote.

RESTAURANT NOTES: I think the above speaks for itself. That being said — someone I respect greatly when it comes to food knowledge had a decent or positive experience with his boil several days before, so it might be that I just got the luck of the draw. Additionally I would be remiss not to awknowledge the excellent service we received.
