They say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. I concur. Of course the “imitation” actually has to be in the universe of resembling that which is purported to be imitated.
Exhibit A. Recently an acquaintance of mine…let’s call him “He Who Must Not Be Named,” made a horrible attempt at imitating me on a popular talk show, in which I am the star. There were a few fake laughs, sure. But they were kind of like “I feel bad for you” laughs. Ya know? Because the imitation by He Who Must Not Be Named was just so atrocious.
So if you’re going to imitate, actually try. Otherwise people will think you’re dumb and stupid and don’t know nothing about nothing like He Who Must Not Be Named.
