March 30, 2025
Good morning. It’s Sunday, March 30th and this is today’s Stick in TKG’s Craw.
The Short-Sighted Hosts. The ones that host dinner parties or get-togethers or house parties at their home and there is one important element missing — the background music/noise.
The Short-Sighted Host has prepared the dinner or hors d’oeuvres, cleaned the house and made it all cute and pretty and stuff. But the Short-Sighted Host failed to do the one thing that matters the most in turning on some entertaining background music. Let me say this clearly for all the people in the back. NEVER have a group of people over to your house when there are folks in the group that do not know others attending, WITHOUT background music on. Period.
Don’t you know that most people are awkward? That people struggle to even think about what to talk with that stranger about? That the background music is there for someone that is struggling with what to say next to that new person? The background music gives that socially awkward person the ability to say “Oh, this is a good song, who is this,” or “I love Lady Gaga. She’s just great,” and so on, so forth.
One could even level up, depending on where the cooking is being done or where people are congregated, by turning on YouTube on the television to have music videos on rotation. It gives those awkward ducks something to LOOK at when it becomes tired of gazing into the eyes of that new acquaintance.
I have been hosting get togethers for years. And there is ALWAYS something on in the background. Period. And my entire life I have silently judged you Short-Sighted Hosts.
No more — I cannot stay silent.
