January 11, 2026
It’s Sunday, January 11th and this is what is in my craw.
I LOVE my vet. I love my pets. But I cannot stand the whole “prescription” thing. An example to illustrate my “stick.” For one of my many pets I get a special dry food that helps with weight management. And the ONLY way I can buy the pet food from PetSmart is with a prescription which lasts 6-months. I do not mind taking that pet to the vet every 6-months, but I DO mind that I cannot go in the store a day after my prescription expires to buy some dang pet food. I mean, seriously!?!?
On another pet of mine, I have been waiting for weeks for essential medication (which takes a prescription) to ship. What the heck? Why do I even need a prescription?!?
What exactly am I going to do with the pet medication or the pet food? Hawk it on the street? Put it in a needle and inject myself? I don’t understand the public policy rationale for prescription pet food and pet medication not being “over the counter.” I can buy rat poison at Wal-Mart, but not same damn kibble without a prescription? REALLY gets in my craw.
