I figured out why everyone that checks out Tianluo Bistro Wichita 田螺姑娘餐厅 in Wichita, Kansas never leave disappointed. It is because Katie Qu and her husband, Jack, know what they are doing. Like REALLY know what they are doing. Jack was a chef in Chinatown in New York City for 20+ years and also overseas in China. I guess that does not automatically make you a good chef in a Chinese restaurant in Wichita Kansas – but in this case that is the end result.
Katie opened Tianluo Bistro approximately 2 ½ years ago and has Szechuan region Chinese food, along with Cantonese cuisine. This was my third visit and I wanted to try something new and something old. For the “something old,” I went with the Steamed Dumplings that are filled with minced meat and gravy. I LOVE those dumplings and get them every time I am there. For the “something new,” I got the White Fish Soup. I’d heard about this soup multiple times and it was time. It comes out in a massive bowl filed with tons of perfectly cooked tender fish. As it relates to the broth, it is difficult to describe the amount of flavors that pop out – it has a rich savory flavor though. Trust me…if you like food (duh) and you like flavor, you’ll really like or love this soup. It is also so large that it can easily be a shareable dish.
Definitely check this place out or visit again if it has been awhile. Tianluo Bistro is located at 11309 E. Kellogg Dr. by the Wal-Mart near Kellogg and Greenwich.
