I decided I was going to do a little “Old Fashioned” Tour in Wichita, Kansas. I hit up Walker’s Jazz Lounge, iTzcali Tapas and Tequila, Lava & Tonic, Oliver’s Lounge, Chester’s Chophouse & Wine Bar, Flight 1868, Red Bird and Wichita Brewing Co & Pizzeria.

Now, like everything, people have a strong preference when it comes to an Old Fashioned. Some peeps like it sweeter. Some don’t. Me personally, I’m not a huge fan of a ton of syrup and so I don’t think of a “good” old fashioned as having a ton of sweet syrups in it.

I have provided a photo of the front of each spot, followed immediately by the old fashioned at said spot. 8 spots. And you also must bear in mind that some of these places don’t sell themselves as “cocktail spots.”

I’ll give you my top three. The rest — I won’t give my rankings, as I didn’t rank them.

My top #1 spot is DEFINITELY Walker’s Jazz Lounge. It is just the best (in my mind). Not even close. It is smoky and the presentation is amazing.

My #2 spot is iTzcali Tapas and Tequila. It’s got an interesting taste and definitely is strong.

And my #3 spot is Lava & Tonic.

The rest, some I liked a lot, some I liked and some I didn’t like.

P.S. To the “where is this located” crowd—click the tag if you want to know. I’m not providing the addresses and cross streets for eight places. You get what you pay for.
