July 1, 2024

Two things happened in Wichita, Kansas on 4/20 (2024). First, Wichita Wagyu had its grand opening. Second…..shoot I forgot the second thing bro.

When Clay and Barb Hoberecht started Wichita Wagyu they decided they wanted to have Wagyu beef that was raised right here in the Midwest. That’s pretty dang cool. As a consequence they carry Wagyu beef, steak and other products including A5 full blooded Japanese steaks. Some of the farms they sell the “product” from are Wheat State Wagyu (raised in Garden Plain, Kansas area), Gypsum Valley Wagyu Cattle Company (raised in Salina, Kansas area), Dewey Ranch (raised in Garden Plain, Kansas area), Bar V Wagyu (raised in Abilene, Kansas area), SSE Land and Cattle Co. Wagyu Beef (raised in Newton, Kansas area) and Oklahoma Wagyu (raised in eastern Oklahoma). There are several more.

But those six farms were part of the Battle of the Farms hosted by Wichita Wagyu. Wichita By E.B., Fert The Foodie, Jackstacks.Eats, Live Local and yours truly did a blind taste test of all six steaks. For all of us it was a difficult decision. Three of us ultimately chose Oklahoma Wagyu as our favorite, but the difference between our first favorite and second favorite was about the length of a frog hair. I vacillated between several of them.

Clay and Barb are a great, young couple with three kids and providing a great service to the community. I’d encourage you to check out their store the next time time you plan a grill out or even for these upcoming 4th of July festivities. They are actually having some incredible deals this week (week of July 4th).

I’d be remiss if I didn’t say “thank you” to the hosts. So, thank you Clay, Barb and Wichita Wagyu. You’ll see me again.
