Gastrofans,
Sometimes Doug’s Mother-in-Law (my mom) annoys the hell out of me. She’s always saying the most unhelpful things like that I need to save money and be kind to people and crap like that. But anyway, she loves sandwiches, salads and soups. So I took her to Newk’s Eatery in northeast Wichita at The Waterfront,.
In case you didn’t know — Newk’s Eatery is a franchised chain restaurant and the owners are Wichita locals — Jenny and Scott Hatchett and Melody and Doug Matulewic. The restaurant was founded in 2004 by the dudes that started McCallister’s Deli. This is the only Kansas location.
This is my third visit to Newk’s. I went with the Chicken Bacon Club and Broccoli Cheddar Soup. I did the “Pick 2,” so it was a half sandwich and cup of soup. Honestly that soup was definitely more than “a cup,” in my opinion. I liked dunking the sandwich into that cheesy soup. Doug’s MIL, whom is a big fan of Broccoli Cheddar Soup agreed with me that it was worth ordering.
Meanwhile, Doug’s MIL went with the Greek Salad. I tried some of it and would also recommend this salad. It has Romaine, Feta, Artichoke Hearts, Kalamata Olives, Cucumbers, Pepperoncinis, Red Onions, Tomatoes and Greek Dressing.
