It never ceases to amaze me when I stumble on a restaurant in a small community that I have never heard about. I mean, a small community I’ve drove by dozens of times. The most recent example is Hen’s Hideaway in Kinsley, Kansas.

I was craving some quick breakfast and so I turned off of Hwy. 50 to go down the Main Street (at least it seemed like “Main Street” to me, but it was technically called “Niles Ave.) to see if there was anything. And lo and behold, this cool little spot called Hen’s Hideaway was just there.

What a neat spot! According to the owner, it has been open for two years. By the way she took my order and was so friendly and welcoming. The restaurant had a ton of pastries and doughnuts, but also breakfast sandwiches and of course a breakfast burrito for your favorite The Kansas Gastronomist. It came packed with all those the eggs in it. It was a great BB in my opinion and also just a cool spot. According to its socials, it has a lot of lunch specials and of course, drinks.

This will definitely be a spot that I check out again…now that I know it exists. I really wish these small local restaurants that are off the highway had some way to let people know “Hey, if you turn off here and drive 20-seconds, you can have a great meal from a local family instead of eating fast food crap in the next town.”

Oh well.
