The BBQ that Rassan Hines and his family put out is absolutely top tier.
HINES BBQ is based out of Lyons, Kansas and operates out of a spot called “Lumberyard on 56,” but they have been doing pop-ups as of late. They had a pop-up at Hopping Gnome Brewing Company in Wichita back in August and then had another one back on October 17th at Hopping Gnome. I went both times.
On this visit I ordered the Pork Ribs, Brisket, Turkey Breast, Jalapeño & Cheddar Sausage, Texas Hot Sausage, Cheesy Tators, Pit Beans, Dirty Rice, Honey Butter Cornbread, Banana Pudding and Cornbread Chocolate Pudding. What a spread. And not a damn bad thing about it because this freak knows his Texas style BBQ.
After trying out Hines BBQ twice now, I feel confident to recommend that you try whatever your heart desires because it’s going to be good. But some random thoughts. First, I was so impressed with the turkey — you could taste that lovely smoke. Second, if you don’t order the dirty rice you are not living your best life. Third, that honey cornbread is, like many have said before me, some of the oooiest and gooiest cornbread you’ve ever had. And fourth, fifth and sixth — this BBQ just hits.
