FULL DISCLOSURE: I attended a soft opening of the newest Newk’s Eatery that will be opening up on Monday, October 5th in Western Wichita. I did not pay for my food and was not allowed to tip, so I donated $20 to Newk’s Cares, the philanthropic arm of Newk’s Eatery, which was founded to increase the number of ovarian cancer survivors, improving the rate of early diagnosis.
For those that do not know, Newk’s Eatery was initially founded in 2004 by the same dudes that founded McCallister’s Deli. There are around 100-locations in 13-states, including one in northeast Wichita at The Waterfront, Wichita and this one opening Monday at 3905 N. Ridge Rd., which is close to the northwest corner of N. Ridge Rd. & W. 37th St. N. Both locations in Wichita are owned by local Wichita peeps — Melody and Doug Matulewic and Jenny and Scott Hatchett.
If you’ve never been to a Newk’s Eatery, it’s a sandwich, salad, wrap, soup and pizza spot. On this trip I ordered two sandwiches I had never tried — the Chicken Bacon Club sandwich and the Roast Beef sandwich, along with a side of Macaroni and Cheese and a cup of Loaded Potato Soup. My favorite sandwich out of the two was the Roast Beef. I have now tried six sandwiches on the Newk’s menu and I would put the Roast Beef as my #2 overall sandwich, after the Italian sandwich. I also previously tried the Loaded Potato Soup and had to order it again because it is pretty tasty.
