Donut (or is it Doughnut?) spots are interesting. I did a write-up recently on Daylight Donuts and gave some background on how Daylight Donuts operate. So, since I swung by The Donut Palace in Pratt recently, I decided to do the same.

Based on my research, Donut Palace operates a lot like Daylight Donuts. There are around 450 Donut Palaces in approximately fifteen states in the United States. There are twelve in Kansas, including this location in Pratt, along with Abilene, Augusta, Baxter Springs, Coffeyville, Hoisington, Junction City, Leavenworth, Ottawa, Rose Hill, Wamego and Wichita. What that means is if someone is interested in owning a Donut Palace, they reach out to the “Donut Palace and Equipment Co.” company in Texas and if there is an agreement, the company in Texas will help the someone to find a proper location, get local and state licenses and a bunch of other stuff. But the someone is the owner of the Donut Palace in whichever location – and instead of a franchise agreement where profits are shared to some degree, in this case the someone must get the ingredients/food from the company in Texas. Similarly, all of the Daylight Donut locations are independently owned by the someone.

Anyway, since I was in a donut shop, I ordered………..the Ham, Egg and Cheese croissant. Duh. Don’t tell me how to live my life. I thought it was pretty tasty. Oh, and the really nice lady up front threw me (no, she didn’t know it was TKG) some donut holes on the house. Yum.
