The newest restaurant to the Wichita food scene is Touré By Fredo Oysters Wine Bistro in northeast Wichita. It’s located where a couple popular places previously housed — off the top of my head Lima Nation Peruvian Kitchen and Lola’s Bistro.
When fellow blogger Wichita By E.B. and I swung by, it had only been open two or three days and they made it clear they were in the “soft opening stage.” But honestly nothing felt “soft opening” about it.
We tried out two appetizers and two entrees. For appetizers, it was the Harissa Honey Calamari (third food photo) and a 1/2 dozen oysters (fourth food photo). And for entrees it was the Dukkah Lamb Lollipops (second food photo) and the Branzino (first food photo).
As for the Calamari I really enjoyed the spicy red pepper aioli it came with. I’m not sure I have seen a sauce like that with Calamari. It was also unique that the Calamari included sautéed zucchini and red pepper. It came highly recommended and impressed me. As for the oysters, we got them naked. They were good, but saw you can also get them “dressed.” I’m curious enough to go back and see what that’s about.
As far as the entrees, both were on point. But the best entree was the Branzino, which is a European Sea Bass. I thought it had been overcooked, but it was just because they had baked or crisped the skin on the outside. But this was fantastic as was the Mediterranean rice it came with. The rice was just flavorful. While I did enjoy the the Lollipops, including the purple sweet potato mash, I highly recommend the Branzino.
Oh yeah, I also ordered the Toure Old Fashioned (or two). It was delicious. It came with Bulleit Rye and was not even remotely sweet, which I appreciated. You could tell there was little (or no?) syrup in it, which I think is important. I also thought the price point of $13 was better than other upscale restaurants in ICT.
Touré By Fredo Oysters Wine Bistro is located at 2146 N. Collective Ln., Suite 102, Wichita, KS 67206
