Doug (my brother-in-law) is a bit of an idiot. He doesn’t think things through before speaking — the number one sign of idiocy. And he was yelling about how expensive Wichita Riverfest is and that there is not any local food and so on, so forth.

So, this post is for you, Doug.

I swung by Honey & Rue’s, a Wichita chopped deli sub food truck, to try out the Rancher — it has smoked pulled chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, american cheese and Ranch. I love their sandwiches. And I also got a sample of the “Barn Candy.” I think a lot of peeps will like this sweet treat. The truck is on Douglas street during Riverfest. By the way, my favorite sub is still the Buckle Bunny.

Then I swung by J&S Smoked Snacks, a Wichita beef jerky pop-up that makes their jerky and sausage at the Kitchens at Empower. I picked up a bag of the Hot Beef Jerky. But man, they have a lot of different options. Spicy Dill Pickle had a nice kick to it. And the Honey Bourbon was pretty dang good too. It is located in the Century II Performing Arts & Convention Center.

Finally I stopped by and met Joshua Thompson-Williams. He has a company called JTW Comics. The young man, born and raised in Wichita, actually made a comic book and did the illustrations (you can see an image of them) in his comic. Joshua told me that he is working on a print edition of the comic, but you can read it online. I’ll post the link in the comments.
