Let’s see if I can describe eloquently what I want to say.
So, I have wanted to try Yum Truck 56 for many years. They are a food truck based out of the small town of Sawyer, Kansas — population of less than 100. But they have these crumbly burgers and I just wanted to try it one darn time. I drove by them once in Pratt, stopped, and they had just run out of the burgers. And another time, I stopped in Sawyer at The Family Food Store and saw the truck in a nearby driveway and desperately wanted to knock on the door and special request a burger. I didn’t.
And as a result I have followed them for a number of years. And because I follow their page, I saw recently that their son had passed away. I can’t imagine. How incredibly sad and horrific.
But what they did about it was absolutely beautiful. Yesterday, on Saturday, they gave out free burgers and Austin’s favorite ice cream to anybody that showed up. In his memory. To honor him. And bro, did the community show up? Yes, they did.
You know why? Because it’s a small town. Where neighbors help neighbors. And, yeah, maybe there isn’t the greatest steakhouse in town, but that’s okay because your best friend makes a better steak. And those people that showed up…well those are the people that are there for you through thick and thin.
End.
