When I was a young Gastronomist in So Cal, I grew to love fish tacos. And one of the few fish tacos in Wichita that remind me of those So Cal tacos are available at Puerto Vallarta Mexican Restaurant on N. Tyler Rd. It is not lost on me that the owners lived in Orange County and Long Beach before moving to ICT.
I seriously love these fish tacos! You can get grilled or fried, but IMO you’re dumb if you don’t get it grilled. The fish taco includes chipotle aioli, shredded lettuce, mango salsa, avocado and pico de gallo.
I also wanted to try something different, so I asked my server if the chef/cook could make a grilled fish burrito even though it’s not on the menu. They did me a solid and acquiesced. It was also excellent, but if I were getting one or the other, definitely go with the taco. You can really taste that fish flavor with everything else.
The fish taco at Puerto Vallarta (602 N. Tyler Rd.) in Western Wichita is definitely one of my favorite dishes in town.
