FULL DISCLOSURE: I rolled with Fert The Foodie to Slingin Birds LLC food truck in Wichita to try the Ferty Birdy (named after Fert) sandwich and as a consequence, the wich and fries were free.

Kyle Levesque, the dude owner of Slingin Birds, really cares about supporting local. He told me that the honey on his Hot Honey Garlic Chicken Sandwich is sourced from those bees at Botanica. And of course, the brioche buns that envelope the chicken come from Leah’s Bakery. I think it’s cool seeing a young dude that cares about using product from others in the community to pair with his product.

For those that do not know, these chicken sandwiches are more comparable to Korean Fried Chicken than the “typical” fried chicken sandwiches you ordinarily see around. His sandwiches use massive-ass Chicken Thighs (instead of breasts) and he throws them in pickle juice to marinate for a spell. As far as the Ferty Birdy, it came with kewpie mayo, pickles, peach chutney (homemade), Swiss cheese, bacon and of course Fert’s Infamous Peach BBQ Sauce.

My thoughts? Well, I came close to eating the whole sandwich which is saying something because that thing is a BEAST. It was very tasty!

Check Slingin Birds’ social media pages to see where it will be slinging chicken next. Or don’t. Honestly, you’re either going to do it or not, regardless of what I write.
