FULL DISCLOSURE: One of the dishes was comped, so my tip was my regular tip + MORE than 100% of the cost of the “free” dish.

Chef NGR opened The Kitchen nearly ten years ago in September 2016 in Wichita, Kansas. That’s impressive. You know, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 65% of restaurants never make it to that 10-year mark. And I think one reason The Kitchen (3622 N. Oliver St.) has, is because Natasha is not afraid to try new things. For example, The Kitchen just recently, in the last month or so, started offering Brunch on Sundays from 10am – 2pm.

I ordered the Chipotle Sunrise Bowl. It comes with slow-braised chipotle pork over breakfast potatoes with peppers, onions, aji verde, chipotle-lime crema, pico de gallo and a fried egg. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it because I kind of expected the dish to be a tad dry. But it wasn’t. The pork was moist from the braise and that in conjunction with the aji verde and crema just made for a perfect flavor. It was definitely tasty enough to be on my rotation when I want a “breakfast bowl” in Wichita.

I also tried the Italian Benedict. Now remember, this dish normally comes with fruit and breakfast potatoes, but since I was just “checking it out,” I didn’t get those sides. It comes with crispy polenta topped with sautéed peppers, onions and tomatoes, with poached eggs and a pesto hollandaise. I really enjoyed it, but I am also an Italian fan — all things Italian, right? I think I would REALLY have loved dipping the potatoes it normally comes with into that tomato/marinara sauce.

Let me be the first blogger (it’s always important to me to be the first in everything!!!!!!) to say congrats to The Kitchen. You’ve made it almost ten-years! Salute to another ten.
