If you have never checked out the McPherson Opera House, you definitely need to put it on your list. It was built in 1888 — 18-years after McPherson was founded. And back in the day they used to use this Ticket Board thingamajig you can see in the first photo. Kind of interesting, ain’t it? It looks like they would load up that board with all the tickets for whatever show and then when you’d pay, the ticket seller would pull the ticket out of that slot, and voila — no more tickets could be sold for that seat. I guess it’s similar to how we do it now. Anyway, I thought it was cool.
I love these old theaters and historical spots. It’s sad how many spots are no longer with us. But I’m glad for organizations like the McPherson Opera House Company for stepping up (in the 1980s) to make sure this gem wasn’t forgotten.
