I had an interesting conversation with a younger person (late twenties or early thirties). And the subject was about the “older generation” not letting go and not helping that younger generation to be the leaders.

I see that a lot in many professions and organizations. Where the smartest thing to do for the good of the company or organization, to continue whatever work it is doing, is to not have the “older generation” cling to the power and decision making, but instead to graciously pass it along, perhaps slowly, to the next generation.

It just got me thinking. It seems to me that this is truly a widespread problem. And is not healthy for either the parties in power or the ones waiting, and waiting, on the periphery.

So, this is just a reminder — if you run a company or organization or event or not-for-profit or whatever — make sure to be quick to teach and quick to pass along the torch. Hopefully, just as the generation before you did when you were bestowed said torch.
